Trademarks, Patents and Copyrights, oh my!

Tuesday Jul 07, 2020
There are many reasons to protect your brand's trademark. It seems obvious, yet so many businesses find themselves letting their trademark lapse or allowing it to be modified or misused. This causes market confusion or, worse, allows your competitors to take it over potentially.
Also, if you own a business or are conducting the marketing for that business, and you use graphics or pictures from the internet, then publish them in presentation, social media, etc., you are putting your business in jeopardy.
That's crazy, you say? Well, you're crazy…if you are using the copyrighted materials, the IP, of another company or person. Why, because you are committing a crime and can be fined thousands of dollars. And, if you were sued, that money comes right from your bottom line and potential could bankrupt your business.
Today at the Café I'm excited to have Sharon Adams, Founder & President of Adams Law Offices, on our show to discuss the importance of protecting your IP and your business.

Be kind, considerate and empathetic…life lessons of inspiration

Tuesday Jun 23, 2020
In today’s show, I wanted to get real and talk about life. There is so much happening in our world I get concerned that we are losing sight of the important things that make us who we are. I found inspiration from the author Regina Brett. The night before her 45th birthday after being diagnosed with breast cancer, she wrote down 45 life lessons and eventually turned them into a bestselling book.
I’ve used some of her life lessons, which I’ve included below along with my own personal thoughts and insights to hopefully motivate and inspire us all to be a little better and cherish what we have, not what we don’t.
I hope you find one or two thoughts in today’s episode that inspires you to want to be inspirational.
Regina’s 45 life lessons.
- Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good.
- When in doubt, just take the next small step.
- Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
- Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
- Pay off your credit cards every month.
- You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
- Cry with someone. It’s more healing than crying alone.
- It’s OK to get angry with God. He can take it.
- Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.
- When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
- Make peace with your past so it won’t screw up the present.
- It’s OK to let your children see you cry.
- Don’t compare your life to others’. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
- If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn’t be in it.
- Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don’t worry; God never blinks.
- Life is too short for long pity parties. Get busy living, or get busy dying.
- You can get through anything if you stay put in today.
- A writer writes. If you want to be a writer, write.
- It’s never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.
- When it comes to going after what you love in life, don’t take no for an answer.
- Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don’t save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
- Overprepare, then go with the flow.
- Be eccentric now. Don’t wait for old age to wear purple.
- The most important sex organ is the brain.
- No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
- Frame every so-called disaster with these words: “In five years, will this matter?”
- Always choose life.
- Forgive everyone everything.
- What other people think of you is none of your business.
- Time heals almost everything. Give time time.
- However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
- Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch.
- Believe in miracles.
- God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn’t do.
- Whatever doesn’t kill you really does make you stronger.
- Growing old beats the alternative – dying young.
- Your children get only one childhood. Make it memorable.
- Read the Psalms. They cover every human emotion.
- Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.
- If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else’s, we’d grab ours back.
- Don’t audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
- Get rid of anything that isn’t useful, beautiful or joyful.
- All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
- Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
- The best is yet to come.

Employee happiness can help protect and safeguard your business success

“Happiness depends upon ourselves.” – Aristotle
Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions.” – Dalai Lama
I’m joined today by Nic Marks Founder of Friday Pulse https://www.fridaypulse.com/, a Statistician, Happiness expert, and TED speaker.
Happiness is a relatively new area of science influencing organizational development -- the science of happiness for a professional perspective on an organization's happiness.
Happiness is how we naturally talk about positivity - and all the benefits that flow from feeling upbeat. Happy is what we want for our children, and it’s what we want to be at work. Positive emotions improve physical health, intellectual abilities, psychological resilience, and our relationships.

Communication tools and infrastructure in the new normal business world
Tuesday Jun 09, 2020
Tuesday Jun 09, 2020
Brian Andersen, Digital transformation specialist and founder of Telecomphrensive Solutions works with businesses to help them think through their technology strategy, focusing on customer experience, employee satisfaction, security, and ease of use in the new normal of remote workers.
Life changed two-plus months ago as employees headed home to work as a result of the Coronavirus. Who thought, including myself, that two months later we'd be working from home…hopping on endless zoom meetings would become the norm.
The question becomes, as the guidelines start to lift and it becomes safer in the workplace, will working from home be more of the norm than the occasional telecommuter.
And with these changes comes the needed and necessary communications tools and infrastructure that for most companies didn’t exist.
Listen in as we explore!

Leadership comes in all shapes, sizes, and levels of experience. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, he/she is a born leader. But I’m not sure anyone is really born a great leader. Given today’s challenges in the business world; however, leadership is even more important than ever.
Adam Mendler, CEO, of Veloz Group joins me at the Business Growth Cafe. Adam is a serial entrepreneur, motivational speaker, author, and today, my guest, to explore the importance of leadership, as well as advice for entrepreneurs about improving their leadership skills.
